Education & CITI Training

HRPP education and training in research ethics, regulations, and methodology are fundamental to the University’s mission to promote the highest standards in human research protections. IRB-SBS education and training are targeted to those involved in social and behavioral sciences research.

The University of Virginia requires all individuals conducting research involving human participants to complete an initial online Human Subjects Research Protection training course and then to recertify every 3 years. Researchers submitting protocols to the IRB-SBS are required to complete an IRB-SBS Researcher Basic Course if they have never done so OR an IRB-SBS Researcher Refresher Course if they have previously taken the Basic Course. See HRPP CITI Training for more information.

Beyond the CITI training requirement, educational offerings include an array of learning opportunities, from online learning shots to educational events.

The Virginia IRB Consortium provides additional opportunities for education for IRB staff, IRB members, and researchers throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as for collaboration on issues related to human research protections and IRBs.
